Superintendent of Public Works
Warren County

Saratoga Springs, NY – January 2025 - The New York State County Highway Superintendents Association (NYSCHSA) elected Kevin Hajos President at its Annual Winter Conference and Tradeshow held recently at The Saratoga Hilton, Saratoga Springs, NY. Hajos is Warren County Superintendent of Public Works.

At the NYSCHSA Annual Association Luncheon, Hajos expressed his appreciation to his immediate predecessors, Tompkins County Highway Director Jeff Smith and Wayne County Superintendent of Public Works Kevin Rooney, during the “passing of the gavel” ceremony, for their outstanding leadership of the Association and helping to prepare him for the challenges of the Presidency.

In accepting the Presidency, Hajos said, “I am truly honored and humbled to be chosen to lead the Association over the next year.” While reflecting on the history of the Association, which was established in 1909, Hajos spoke about “the challenges and changes the County highway community has faced and I am reminded of the resilience, adaptability and leadership of those who have taken on these roles.”

Hajos was appointed Warren County Superintendent of Public Works in 2018. He is responsible for overseeing all county highway and bridge construction, maintenance of all road machinery and snow removal as well as managing the following six divisions: Floyd Bennett Memorial Airport, Parks & Recreation, Solid Waste and Recycling, Highway & Traffic, Engineering, and Buildings and Grounds.

n his role as NYSCHSA President, Hajos serves as a leading voice advocating for highway department priorities, growing membership, and providing resources to peers across the state. An important goal of Hajos’s for the year ahead is to build on the important work of those who have served before him. “Whether it’s advocating for funding, fostering change, or strengthening our partnership at every level of government, I see this Presidency as an opportunity to ensure our voices are heard and that NYSCHSA remains on the forefront of progress” he explained.

“I want to say how proud I am to be part of an Association that values leadership, learning and legacy. Here’s to a year of continued collaboration, progress and service,” Hajos concluded.

Local roads and bridges account for 87% of the roads, 50% of the bridges and 48% of the vehicle mileage logged in New York State. They are a vital and indispensable part of the overall transportation infrastructure. With an aging and ailing local transportation system, and the ever-rising costs of materials, labor and equipment, funding levels have not kept up with the needs.

NYSCHSA is a non-profit organization whose county superintendents, public works commissioners and affiliate members have been gathering for over 100 years to share knowledge and experience, and to build professional networks and relationships. NYSCHSA recognizes that having a modern system of roads, bridges and culverts in New York State must be a priority. Through its well-recognized “Local Roads Are Essential” campaign, NYSCHSA works to enhance federal, state, and local investment in our transportation infrastructure to help to ensure the continued safety and functionality of our roads, bridges, culverts, and other transportation assets to secure New York’s competitiveness for economic development and job creation.
